Serie del Caribe que se disputa en esta ciudad de Baja California, México.
En un choque bien cerrado de principio a fin los asiáticos, contando con gran apoyo de la afición, abrieron el marcador en la parte alta del tercer capítulo frente al abridor Luis Leroy Cruz cuando, después de outs, combinaron sencillos consecutivos de Yuki Sato por territorio del campo corto, Kan Nakayauchi por segunda base y el impulsor de Yuta Hamada al prado central.
Sin embargo, los boricuas, totalmente silenciados durante las primeras cuatro entradas en las que no conectaron de hit, le dieron la vuelta al marcador en el final del quinto frente al abridor Isaki Ninomiya. Abriendo la entrada David MacKinon conectó sencillo al jardín derecho, Eddie Rosario recibió base por bolas y luego del toque de sacrificio de Edwin Díaz, Mario Feliciano conectó un rodado difícil por tercera que impulsó a MacKinon con la del empate y llevó a tercera a Rosario, desde donde anotó por squeeze play de Shed Long.
Indios de Mayagüez amplió la ventaja en la séptima al combinar hit de Mario Feliciano, sacrificio de Shed Long, boletos consecutivos a Henry Ramos e Isán Díaz y fly de sacrificio de Anthony García al jardín izquierdo.
En la parte alta del octavo los nipones negociaron el empate ante José de León al ligar un triple al jardín derecho de Tatsuhiro Satoh e incogible al centro del emergente Munenori Kawasaki.
La victoria se la acreditó el abridor Luis Leroy Cruz quien lanzó 5 entradas completas y admitió 1 carrera con 5 hits, no regaló boletos y ponchó a 5. Detrás vinieron los relevistas Derek Rodríguez (1.0), Jake McSteen (0.2), Ricardo Vélez (0.1) y Justin Yeager que se anotó el salvamento al tirar la novena entrada ante unos rivales que incluso llegaron a tener el empate en tercera.
La derrota recayó en la cuenta del abridor nipón Isaki Ninomiya, pese a una muy buena labor de 4.2 entradas lanzadas de 2 carreras limpias y 2 hits. Le siguieron Shinra Asano (1.0), Yuki Sato (1.0) y Aki Watanabe (1.0).
Con este resultado Puerto Rico tiene balance 1 victoria y 1 derrota, mientras Japón encajó su segundo revés en igual número de salidas. En sus próximas salidas los boricuas jugarán frente a Venezuela y los asiáticos ante México.
Este domingo jugarán a segunda hora Charros de Jalisco de México y Leones del Escogido de República Dominicana, en busca de mantener el invicto. Los mexicanos ya le ganaron a Puerto Rico y a Venezuela, mientras los quisqueyanos ya superaron a Venezuela y a Japón.
La actual edición de la Serie del Caribe se juega por el sistema de todos contra todos a una vuelta. Los cuatro primeros clasificarán a la ronda semifinal, luego de la cual los ganadores discutirán el primer lugar y los perdedores el segundo.

In a tightly contested game from start to finish, the Japanese team, with strong support from the crowd, opened the scoring in the top of the third inning against starting pitcher Luis Leroy Cruz. After two outs, they combined consecutive singles by Yuki Sato to shortstop, Kan Nakayauchi to second base, and an RBI single by Yuta Hamada to center field.
However, the Puerto Ricans, who had been completely silenced through the first four innings without recording a hit, turned the game around in the bottom of the fifth against starter Isaki Ninomiya. Leading off the inning, David MacKinnon singled to right field, Eddie Rosario drew a walk, and after a sacrifice bunt by Edwin Díaz, Mario Feliciano hit a tough grounder to third, driving in MacKinnon to tie the game and moving Rosario to third, from where he scored on a squeeze play by Shed Long.
Indios de Mayagüez extended their lead in the seventh inning by combining a hit by Mario Feliciano, a sacrifice bunt by Shed Long, consecutive walks to Henry Ramos and Isán Díaz, and a sacrifice fly by Anthony García to left field.
In the top of the eighth, the Japanese team threatened to tie the game against José de León when Tatsuhiro Satoh hit a triple to right field, followed by a pinch-hit RBI single to center by Munenori Kawasaki.

Later this Sunday, Charros de Jalisco from Mexico and Leones del Escogido from the Dominican Republic will play in the second game, both looking to remain undefeated. The Mexicans have already defeated Puerto Rico and Venezuela, while the Dominicans have beaten Venezuela and Japan.
This edition of the Caribbean Series follows a round-robin format. The top four teams will advance to the semifinal round, where the winners will play for first place, while the losers will compete for second place.
